Old School

So, in running an AutoCAD class today, from what I can tell, Autodesk has changed a DEFAULT in how the hatch command works. I know what you are thinking, change a default??? From what I observed, it would appear that hatches now default to Outer Island Detection and no longer defaults to Normal Island Detection as the out of the box setting. Really??? After all these long years of updates they finally changed a default? Can someone else who didn't migrate previous settings confirm this?

I just confirmed it... suddenly "normal" feels so "abnormal". ;-)

Thanks for the good blog. It's nice to be able to read about the Old School methods I've forgotten over the past few years. Your blog has helped me re-communicate with some people who will never make the switch. Thanks for the help.

I can confirm the change as well. It is controlled by a drawing-based System Variable, HPISLANDDETECTION, so you can change the value in your template files to start new files with the desired default setting; changing it in an existing file will also be "remembered" in that file, if you save it after the change.

0 = Normal
1 = Outer
2 = Ignore
